Is this normal? Day by day.

Enter the day you got tattooed. You’ll see which healing day you’re on, what’s expected right now and what isn’t, and you can drop 30 daily check-ins into your calendar.

One calendar reminder a day from today to day 30, each linking to that day's page. Opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar and Outlook. The file is made in your browser; your date isn't sent to us.

Pick your tattoo date

We'll show which day of healing you're on, what's normal at that point, and what should send you to a doctor instead of your artist.

Not medical adviceA general timeline, not a diagnosis. Follow your artist’s aftercare instructions. Spreading redness, pus, fever or pain that’s getting worse means see a doctor, not your artist.

The first 30 days

Every day, at a glance

Healing moves through five overlapping stages. Timings vary with size, placement and how it was wrapped, so read the days either side of yours too.

Days 0–3

Open wound

The tattoo is an open wound. It weeps, swells a little and feels warm. All of that should be easing off by day 3.

Days 4–7

Drying and itch

The surface dries and tightens. Itching starts, light flaking may begin and the colors look a bit faded. This is the top layer of skin, not your ink.

Days 7–14

Active peel

Thin flakes come off, often tinted with ink, and the tattoo looks patchy and dull. Itching usually peaks. The pigment sits below the peeling layer and is intact.

Week 4–6

Reveal

The waxy layer finishes shedding and real healed saturation comes through. The deeper skin keeps settling for months, but the surface is done.

How the days are counted

Day 0 is the day of your session, so day 1 is the first morning after. That matches our healing stages and Saniderm day-by-day guides. If your artist used a second-skin bandage, the first few days look different (the weeping happens under the film), and those day pages call that out.

The one rule that beats any timeline: compare against yesterday. Different is fine. Getting worse after day 3 is not.

FAQ

How long does a tattoo take to heal?

The surface usually heals in about 2–4 weeks: that is when peeling stops and the skin feels smooth again. The deeper layers, where the ink sits, keep settling for around 3–6 months, which is why colors and fine lines keep improving after the tattoo looks healed.

What day does a tattoo start peeling?

Commonly somewhere between day 3 and day 7, with most of it done by day 10–14. Larger or denser tattoos can peel for longer, tattoos healed under second-skin tend to peel later and more lightly, and some small tattoos never visibly peel at all.

Which day is the worst for a new tattoo?

Day 1 is usually the messiest (weeping and soreness), and the peel, roughly days 7–14, is when it looks worst and itches most. Neither is a sign anything has gone wrong.

Is this medical advice?

No. It is a general timeline drawn from our healing guides. Every tattoo heals at its own pace, so follow your artist’s instructions, and see a doctor for spreading redness, pus, fever or pain that is getting worse.

Do you store my tattoo date?

Only in your own browser, so the tracker remembers it when you come back. The calendar file is generated on your device and nothing is sent to us.
